Managing Conflict

This 4-hour course, part of the Training and Facilitation Track of the AFGE P.O.R.T. Leadership Academy, equips union leaders with practical skills to manage and resolve conflicts effectively within their locals and districts. Conflict is a natural part of any dynamic organization, and this course focuses on turning challenges into opportunities for growth, collaboration, and unity. Through hands-on exercises, real-world scenarios, and peer discussion, leaders will gain confidence in facilitating productive conversations that resolve tensions while reinforcing solidarity. By the end of this course, participants will have the tools to navigate conflict constructively, ensuring the union remains focused on advancing the goals of Political Action, Organizing, Representation, and Training.

  • Participants will learn to develop communication strategies that promote understanding and de-escalation.
  • Participants will learn to apply conflict resolution frameworks that align with AFGE’s mission and vision.
